STEAM Friday August 19, 2016

Today in STEAM Friday we designed and engineered sailboats. Our first plan when making the sailboat was to put the foil on the bottom but it flooded. Then we changed our plan by putting the foil everywhere and bending it and putting straws as blasters. My favorite part of STEAM was putting the foil on because I got to decorate it cute. I think STEAM is important because I think that you can learn about cool jobs.

Today in STEAM we designed and engineered a sailboat. Our first plan was too hard for my group. Then we changed our plan by making our boats smaller because we didn’t have time. My favorite part of the STEAM challenge was when we tested our boats in the water with the fan. I think STEAM is important because we tried hard so we could make a better boat. I like doing this because my group can work together better and maybe next time make our boat better.

Today in STEAM we designed and engineered sail boats. Our first plan when making the sail boat was to use foil for the bottom of the boat. Then we changed ours by cutting the paper and crinkling it up. But then we got disqualified because the paper made our boat sink. I think STEAM is important because you have to work together to make your boat work. STEAM is hard work but it’s fun and you should do it. You need to work hard to do it right.

STEAM Friday taught me about naval engineers and working together. A naval engineer works on making boats and making boats better. Today Ms. Buikema called us all naval engineers. I think we were naval engineers because we made a boat and then made it better. Our boat had a sail made out of paper, foil, and craft sticks. We tried our best but it sunk after 100g. My favorite part of STEAM was when we test our boats with the fan.

Michelle, Deveah, Aaron and Alexa,

I really liked reading about your STEAM class projects! It sounds like you all came across some challenges when building your boats and used critical thinking to find the solution. I loved seeing the pictures of your hard work. Keep it up!
