Today at STEMfriday we focused on engineering. We made our second boat and improved it to hold more weight. Last week my boat held 20 grams and this week it held 34 grams. I learned that a mechanical engineer makes things better. It is important to share so other know about mechanical engineers and STEM.
Today in STEM we were mechanical engineers. We made our second boat and worked to improve the weight. Last week my boat held 37 grams and this week it held 40. I learned that an engineer makes things better, like our boats. It’s important to tell you this so you know about STEM. STEM is science, technology, engineering, and math.
Today I learned about math centers. Like computers, seatwork, and teachers choice. I played a math game with a dice about place value. I want to share this because math rocks.
Today in STEM we did engineering. We made our second boat and improved the weight. Last week our boat held 37 grams and now it holds 40 grams. I learned that a mechanical engineer makes things better by going back and changing things. It is important to share so others know what an engineer is.
Today in science we made boats that can hold weight. My group and I held the most weight! Our boat can hold 150 grams. I learned that as you redo your plans you get better. I want to share this so you know about science and our STEM Fridays.
On Tuesday in science we cut open fruits and counted the seeds inside. I looked and I had five seeds in my bean pod. I learned that in science we call bean pods fruits because they have seeds. But, in real life we call them vegetables. It is important to share this with the whole world so they learn that it is a fruit in science and a vegetable in real life.
Today in Science we opened an apple and counted the seeds inside. We looked at them and there was only one seed inside. We learned that corn and apple are both technically fruits. It is important because I thought corn was a vegetable, did you?
Yesterday in science we opened a peach and a tomato. I thought that the tomato would have 100 seeds in it but it turned out it had 101 seeds. I learned that fruit can be anything with a seed. It is important because if you know this when you grow up you will be better at science.
Yesterday we were cutting fruit in the classroom. We cut an avocado and the avocado had one seed, called a pit. I leaned that avocados have one big seed in them. Avocados are important because they help us make spicy foods.
On STEM Friday last week we used materials to make a boat and we tried to make it strong. But, Ms. Buikema put too much weight in it and the boat sunk. It was still a fun day. We learned how to make boats and what supplies worked best. It is important because it was our first STEM Friday and it was fun when we sunk.
I heard some helpful hints today in math if I get stuck on a problem. Some of the hints are ask someone at your table group to explain, use manipulatives, draw a picture, and use the posters and more. I learned hints if I’m stuck so I don’t give up. It is important because you must know what to do during math workshop.
